Earlier this week I posted about the uproar caused by the FBI executing a search warrant on William Jefferson’s office in the Rayburn House Office Building. Since that time, President Bush has thrown a lifesaver to House Speaker Hastert over his dubious antics regarding the matter — he ordered the FBI to seal the documents for a 45-day “cooling off” period.

Now news reports indicate shots fired in the Rayburn House Office Building and that building and the Capital are in lockdown. No one knows much right now, including if there have been any wounded or killed, exactly where the incident happened, or much of anything else.

But isn’t it interesting how a week ago the Executive Branch was the target of Legislative wrath over the separation of powers, but now they can’t wait to get help from that branch?

The thing is, the FBI raid wasn’t a balance of power issue at all — Article I Section 6 of the Constitution specifically provides for intervention when a member is accused of Treason, a felony (which Jefferson is accused of), or Breach of the Peace. Haven’t heard that from the MSM, have you?
