Boy, I just had a heckuva thought.

As reported throughout the media, Barack Obama has an excellent chance at winning his party’s nomination as President. Hillary can’t seem to get her rear in gear and mount an effective campaign against Obama. To this observer — who stays awake nights worrying about an Obama, Clinton, or McCain White House — it’s a matter of the Illinois Senator’s fresh message, or Hillary’s appearance of “politics as usual”, a perception she couldn’t shake in a million years. I would venture to guess that all of Hillary’s machinations between now and the convention will no nothing at all for her, and any attempts at heavy-handedness by either her or Bill will result in a Democrat Smackdown of the Clintons of unprecendented proportion.

Let’s get beyond the primaries, though, and move on to next January. Just for the sake of argument, let’s say that Barack Obama is sworn in as our nation’s 44th President. What would this do to such race-baiters as Big Al $harpton and Je$$e Jack$on? (And yes, I know they both claim to be Reverends, but I tend to reserve that term for people who actually win folks to the Lord, not hucksters promoting their non-Christian agendas.) By having a black man assume the mantle of the Presidency, wouldn’t that forever disprove that America is by nature racist? Wouldn’t it be saying to the world, “Hey, we’ve conquered our racial problems, we’ve looked beyond race to elect the person we really want in the White House”?

It’s an interesting question, and one to me that deserves a little examination. I wonder how Big Al and Jess would handle it? Kinda makes me smile, just thinking about it.
