The Birmingham news reports on a very unique marketing technique — or is it?

SNEAD - The simple message of the sign stands out: “Quote Romans 5:19. Free Drink.”

At the Snead BP gas station at the intersection of Alabama 75 and U.S. 278, patrons receive a free soft drink if they can quote a requested Bible verse.

If Romans 5:19 seems obscure, it’s only because regulars to the store keep suggesting owner Dale Lanier find more challenging requests.

Lanier also has a notebook for taking prayer requests and say he gets reports all the time of answered prayers.

“We’ve had people come in on the prayer requests just to thank us,” he said. “They’ll say, I had a request last week and everything was taken care of.’”

This is refreshing in every sense of the word. And the next time I head up I-59, I know where I’m stopping for a Coke, free or not.

Incidentally, I had to look it up, but Romans 5:19 says, “For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.”
