How in the name of Human Secularism NBC has the unmitigated gall to even think about airing a program called The Book of Daniel is beyond my understanding.

Let the Federalist Patriot sum it up:

NBC is set to run its new series “The Book of Daniel,” which the network claims is a serious drama about Christian life. One need only read the initial description, however, to see that it is anything but the usual defamatory garbage that is typical of Hollywood and the networks. Daniel Webster, the main character, is a drug-addicted Episcopal priest who regularly sees and talks with a rather unorthodox “Jesus” figure. His wife is an alcoholic, his 23-year-old son is a homosexual Republican, and his drug-dealing 16-year-old daughter is, shall we say, hooking up with her adopted 16-year-old brother, while Webster’s lesbian secretary is hooking up with his sister-in-law.

NBC’s new series “The Book of Daniel” is the usual defamatory garbage that is typical of Hollywood.

Network hype and the mainstream media predictably call the show “edgy,” “challenging” and “courageous”.

Mike Royer of NBC-13 here in Birmingham, Alabama has a video interview with star of the show Aiden Quinn and the show’s creator Jack Kenny. The interview can be seen at the time I’m writing this at this location. There are many misconceptions about Christians and Christianity, and Mr. Kenny has no more understanding of his subject matter than I do of the back side of the moon. For instance, his statement about “tolerance and understanding” within the family doesn’t mention the fact that in Christian families there may be a tolerance for the sinner, but not for the sin. While we are all fallible, it’s our daily efforts to live more Christ-like lives and accept God’s grace for our failures that is at the core of our beliefs. We don’t just say “Oh, I accept you” and allow a friend or loved one to continue unchecked on the road to hell.

Furthermore, in the interview it is mentioned that the NBC affiliate in Terre Haute, Indiana has refused to air the show. One of the participants (I forget which) takes the stand that “they refused to air it and they haven’t even seen it”.

DUH! Did either Mr. Kenny or Mr. Quinn read the NBC web site’s page about their program?

Read the highlights from the Federalist Patriot again, Misters Kenny and Quinn, and tell me that you don’t think the average Christian family would be extremely offended by this program?

I am sick to death of Christians being protrayed as loony, dysfunctional, hypocritial morons when the Christians that I know (and probably the ones you know, too) are nothing of the sort. This is absolutely the last straw. I’m encouraging all readers to call their local NBC affiliates and tell them that you plan on boycotting not only their affiliate, but any advertiser who sponsors the show.

Then follow that up with the major advertisers on the station and tell them that you are tired of Christians being portrayed in the manner that they usually are on TV, and that you will not spend one red cent of your money with any advertiser who sponsors “The Book of Daniel”.

They’ll get their shot in on most stations, because only two that I’ve heard of have refused to air the program. Hopefully it will be their only shot, if enough people complain to enough advertisers.
