Go left if you want, but this train is on…

With the withdrawal of Harriet Miers (news report here), Bush has a golden opportunity to set his presidency back on the right track (astute observers will note the shameless plug for my own blog).

Rather than a stealth nominee with no paper trail, Bush couldn’t do much better than to pick a hard-core Conservative as his replacement nominee. Now Libs, before you go getting your panties in a wad, by conservative I mean someone who will adjudicate, not legislate. All in the world conservative means is playing by the established rules, and not attempting to make new ones in the middle of the game.

Janice Rogers Brown is one potential nominee who springs immediately into mind. How could Liberals denounce her without immediately putting down two of their pet causes — minorities and women? Their posturing would be something to behold, I’m sure!

By picking a known jurist of her caliber, Bush would be throwing down the gauntlet to Democrats, reestablishing his presidency as much stronger than it currently is, and uniting Conservatives behind him in a push that would help him all across the board, all in one fell swoop.

Let’s hope that Bush gets “back to basics”, and remembers who put him there in the first place. We’ve had enough trouble with supposedly conservative Supreme Court Nominees turning out to be more liberal than originally thought. We don’t need our Presidents doing the same thing.

I must say that I am not completely dissapointed that she withdrew. Hopefully, President Bush has learned from this and we will see a reflection in his next candidate of what he promised us in the run up to 2008. As your humble pundit has said before…

Harriet Miers, President Bush’s nomination to the Supreme Court, has withdrawn her name from consideration. It was a tough battle and it did not appear she had enough votes to be confirmed. I was not happy or sad with her choice because it is …
